Is the best defence really offence?

    Author: Alexander Malkevich, no comments

As I have repeatedly claimed, the oppression of Russian-speaking journalists in the Baltic states is happening based on far-fetched reasons, and, for the sake of argument, civilized Europe and other institutions on the protection of human rights have not reacted to the persecution of the Russian media.

The most advanced technologies, of course, are being developed in the Baltic countries, so that, if something suddenly happens, you could wash your hands clean. But this "if something" does not happen, and right before European institutions, outrageous activities are occurring: the media and journalists are being persecuted based on far-fetched reasons while civilized and enlightened Europe with all its democratic institutions chooses to look the other way and does absolutely nothing.

For example, even international institutions protecting freedom of speech and the media did not react to the situation with the detention of Russian-speaking journalists cooperating with Sputnik and Baltnews, thereby casting a shadow on their reputation.

In my opinion, international and European NGOs, as well as other institutions that seem to be engaged in protecting the rights of journalists, freedom of speech and freedom of the media, have completely discredited themselves. By the way, the OSCE Special Representative on Freedom of the Media is also complicit.

And to be honest, I no longer understand whether Mr. Harlem Désir is working in his position or whether he has quit because nothing has been heard about him at all.

In my opinion, it is necessary to use an instrument of sanctions against countries that violate basic human rights and freedom of the media, etc.

Until this happens, they will feel they can get away with anything. No kind words of admonition work on them, they really don't care.

Accordingly, if we do not punish financially those who are trying to conduct dialogue with our country in this way, then nothing good will come of it.

In a broadly defined civilized Europe, technologies are really being developed to suppress dissent. In countries such as Germany, Italy and France certain difficulties have been created for Russian journalists, and in the future it will be difficult for those who simply think differently.

I want to say that I have a large number of journalists that I know in Germany, and they are experiencing difficulties there. Difficulties because they are not allowed to speak their mind.
